The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to join a major industrial construction project in Hertfordshire. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile project with a leading contractor, providing proactive health, safety and environmental support across all phases of construction.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, company procedures, and industry best practice. This initial 6-month contract offers the potential for extension based on project requirements and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional HSE advice and guidance to project management, supervisors, and site personnel.

  • Monitor compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, and legal obligations.

  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of Construction Phase Plans and project-specific HSE documentation.

  • Assist in risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work reviews.

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are identified and implemented.

  • Produce HSE reports, statistics, and presentations for internal and client stakeholders.

  • Promote environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across the project.

  • Support toolbox talks, safety briefings, inductions, and workforce engagement programmes.

  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and provide practical support to project teams.

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies as required.

Essential Requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.

  • CSCS Card or equivalent industry-recognised card.

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, IIRSM).

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and their practical application within construction projects.

  • Previous experience in an HSE Advisor role on industrial construction projects.

  • Competent user of Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5/6 in Occupational Health & Safety.

  • IEMA Certificate or equivalent environmental qualification.

  • First Aid at Work qualification.

  • Industry-recognised training in high-risk activities such as:

    • HSG47 (Avoiding Danger from Underground Services)

    • Temporary Works

    • Lifting Operations

    • Excavations

    • Working at Height

  • Formal IT qualification.

  • Experience working within large-scale industrial, manufacturing, energy, or process construction environments.
