Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) to support a major industrial project in the Midlands. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for planning, managing, and overseeing all lifting operations on site, ensuring activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
This is a key safety-critical role requiring strong technical knowledge, leadership capability, and hands-on experience within complex industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the Appointed Person in accordance with LOLER and BS 7121 standards
Develop, review, and author detailed lift plans and lifting risk assessments
Select appropriate lifting equipment, cranes, accessories, and lifting methods
Oversee and coordinate lifting operations teams, including Crane Supervisors, Slinger/Signallers, and Crane Operators
Ensure lifting operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with approved lift plans
Conduct site inspections, method statement briefings, and toolbox talks relating to lifting activities
Liaise closely with the Principal Contractor, site management, engineers, and subcontractors
Monitor and enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
Investigate and report lifting-related incidents, near misses, or unsafe practices
Adapt lift plans as site conditions or programme requirements change
Required Qualifications & Experience
CPCS or equivalent Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) qualification
Extensive experience working on large-scale industrial or heavy engineering projects
Strong working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121, and associated lifting legislation
Proven experience producing and implementing complex lift plans
Ability to manage multiple lifting operations simultaneously in a live site environment
Excellent communication and leadership skills
SMSTS or SSSTS (preferred)
Full UK driving licence
